Harassment and Targeted Abuse

Noice is a platform where everyone can and should feel welcome to come and play.

We believe in the fundamental right of people to express themselves and engage in open conversation.

Abusive and harassing behavior trample on that right for everyone—by silencing and driving people out of communities and conversation, and by creating environments that put people’s security, psychological health and dignity at risk.

Behavior that aims to harass, abuse, intimidate, attack, diminish, marginalize, expose or intentionally cause severe emotional harm to another person is not allowed on Noice. We also do not allow conduct that encourages or incites others to engage in such behavior.

These restrictions apply regardless of whether the behavior is targeted at a specific individual or group, or directed at individuals of groups of people that share common intrinsic attributes, such as physical attributes, political affiliation, profession, neurotype, or are survivors of sexual assault, violence, non-consensual intimate imagery, family abuse, or child abuse, amongst others.

Behavior that targets a person for abuse or harassment based on a protected characteristic of that person will be reviewed under our Hateful Behavior policy as well.

Engaging in behavior that intends to disparage, insult, humiliate, or intimidate an adult

We do not allow behavior that aims to abuse another person, including threats, insults, or behavior that has as a goal to abuse, intimidate, humiliate, embarrass, degrade, attack, diminish, marginalize, dehumanize or cause severe emotional harm.

This includes the following types of behavior:

  • Repeated severe insults directed towards another person when the other person has not consented to that kind of interaction, or has asked for that behavior to stop, or is not present and able to consent to that kind of interaction.
  • Engaging in targeted repeated personal attacks targeting a person’s intelligence or physical attributes
  • Sharing or distributing media intending to abuse or humiliate another person
  • Calling for a person or people to self-injure or end their lives
  • Denying, minimizing, mocking, trivializing or distorting documented violent events, or the victims and their families targeted in those events
  • Wishing harm or death on a person or people
  • Glorifying, reveling in or mocking a person’s past trauma, abuse, injury or death
  • Comparing a person or identifiable group to animals, insects or inanimate objects in a way that is pejorative and dehumanizing

This list of behaviors is not exhaustive. When any of the behaviors above have a minor as a target, they are a violation of our Child Safety policy, which has more severe enforcement consequences.

We recognize that amongst friends, banter, slagging and trash talk, including vulgarity and sexual innuendo can be welcome by the people involved — as long as they are taking part in this consensually. They stop being fun and become abusive when there is no consent between the engaging parties.

We see the following as signs that a conversation or interaction has moved beyond playful banter towards abuse:

  • It is not consensual – there is no history of interaction or friendship between the person targeted by the abuse and the person engaging in the abuse
  • It once was consensual but is no longer consensual — the person targeted has already asked the person engaging in the abuse to stop the behavior
  • It is consensual between participants but not with bystanders — the person targeted and the person engaging in the abuse may be mutually agreeing to this engagement but they have been asked by bystanders to stop or take it private
Consequences for violating this policy:
  • First violation: a warning message and immediate termination of any livestream in progress as well as deletion of any violative messages or content
  • Second violation: temporary suspension of streaming and chat privileges
  • Third violation: temporary suspension from all Noice platforms
  • Fourth violation: indefinite suspension from all Noice platforms.

For egregious cases we will immediately and indefinitely suspend accounts for first-time violations of this policy.
