Introduction
Not all channels are for everyone, and in particular, not all channels or conversations may be suitable for children—that is, for Players on Noice who are over 13 but not yet 18 years old.
When age restrictions are required
There are a some circumstances, which are detailed in our Community Guidelines: in which we require you to restrict your channel to a mature audience. This will depend on the type of content that you stream, or the kind of conversation that you generally allow in your channel:
- sexually suggestive content, such as extensive sexually explicit conversation or discussion in livestream or in chat. (Noice does not allow sexually explicit or sexually suggestive behavior or content)
- displaying adults (yourself or others) consuming nicotine, alcohol, or legally obtained THC where these are legal activities
- streaming certain games with ESRB AO ratings.
You are responsible for age-restricting your channel if you are required to do so. If we identify that your channel is required to have an age restriction and it doesn't have one in place, we may apply a forced age restriction on your channel. If that happens, you will not be able to remove that age restriction unless you successfully appeal our decision first.
Choosing to age restrict your channel
Even if you're not required to apply an age restriction on your channel, you always have the option to do so. For example, if you know that your community often chats about topics or uses language that you and they'd be comfortable with around other consenting adults, but that you'd not be comfortable with when there are young teenagers around, an age restriction might be the right choice for your channel. Or, if you like streaming a variety of titles across the range of ESRB or PEGI ratings, you may want to enable an age restriction for those times when you're streaming a particularly adult-targeted game with an ESRB M or PEGI 18+ rating.
Alternatives to age restriction
You also have other options for managing the conversation in your channel, such as enabling Automod, which gives you and your community's moderators the option to review and approve or reject chat messages that contain sexual, vulgar or crude language, including possible drug references, based on what you and your community are comfortable with having. If you find that you're tempted to fully disable Automod on your channel because you find it too restrictive and it is making your moderators too busy, it may be an sign that an age restriction on your channel may be a responsible move.
Game rating labels
When we detect that you are streaming a game that we recognize, we will automatically add a label to your channel with the ESRB and PEGI ratings for that game, so that players can filter out content based on ratings if they so choose. This label is informational only, and does not connect automatically with age restrictions on your channel.
How to apply an age restriction on your channel
To implement an age restriction on your channel, navigate to your Noice studio. Choose "Settings" and then click on "Stream."
Under the category dropdown, you'll find two options. The first activates the Noice prediction game, while the second marks your account for Mature-Rated content.
Enabling the latter option applies the age restriction to your channel.
